Alone or as a part of a group

We have looked at the role and profitability of being a packager and considered briefly, towards the end of this, the possibility of creating a series of similar joint venture consortiums reusing much of what has been done.

Later when we get to look at marketing we will also consider if you will wish to market the opportunities you are creating yourself, or if you will want another packager to organize this for you.

The natural development from these areas is the discussion as to if you are best going it alone, as a lone packager, or as a part of a group  either as a partnership with an existing packager or becoming a part of a special joint venture consortium set up specifically to undertake some specific group or developments.

There are many of the same advantages of being a part of a consortium that is present with all consortium opportunities and with more pairs of hands and more people to gain the relative expertise, far faster progress could be made. The other advantages of being part of a consortium is that you get to experience how one actually works and you will find that the tasks you have not been looking forward to, are often the ones other want to undertake.

A partnership arrangement with an existing packager may present some advantages, in that they know how to do things, as well as getting approvals may be easier, a lot of shared development is possible and you will still have a major say and being doing most of the development on your own project. Some packagers including Self Build LLC, work through consultants when involved with partnerships, which mean that you have a consultant you can chat over everything and who handles the interface with Self Build for you, this is necessary as they have many arrangements with service providers and have so much happening all the time, that without the support of a consultant, who is an existing service provider and understands how to access all of this, you would not get the advantages this route offers. You however will be pleased to learn that it is Self Build who pays the consultant for their involvement and not you.

Going it alone however for many will still be their favoured route as it gives them the freedom to perform or not at their own speed and change direction easier as they gain experience.
